As a very young child she always had a show to put on and her siblings were the cast, crew and audience! Even early in life she could feel that music has a power to lift the soul and feed the spirit, a method of communication that transcends language and goes straight to the heart. Her passion for the performing arts has led to a lifetime of involvement in theatre, band, choir, dance, piano, photography and anything else that fed her creative hunger. She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and used her time in school to participate in every musical outlet she could find. She has done everything from musicals, to show choirs to choreographing for a traveling dance team. Jill’s artistic work with her college show choir was publicly awarded where she served as president, choreographer and performer. Jill believes the arts build self-esteem and help people find inner strength by working hard to create something bigger than one's self and develop God given talents and gifts. Vocal Director Erica was born and raised in Southeastern Connecticut. She grew up in a small town with her parents and 2 younger sisters. While it’s true that she sang into her Fisher Price tape recorder as soon as she could speak, she began her formal singing career in the church choir when they finally let her in at age 16! She began taking dance lessons at age 4 and piano lessons at age 12, so the performing arts have been an integral part of her life. Erica earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College in 2000 with a major in religion and a minor in voice. She sang in choirs throughout college, including St. Salvator’s Chapel Choir at St. Andrews University, Scotland, during her junior year abroad. Erica has performed in many different countries and venues including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in NYC; Old South Church in Boston; Salamanca, Spain; and Montreal, Canada. After college she spent a year as a youth worker in England where she began to combine her love of music with her love of working with teens. When she returned stateside, she sang with the Mystic River Chorale, performed with the Pfizer Players, and sang on several worship teams. Running a teen center, working in a safe home for abused and neglected children, and coordinating families for foreign exchange students kept her busy until she married the love of her life in 2009. Erica now lives in Pasco with her husband and two children, whom they homeschool. Music continues to be a daily part of family life. Erica is also currently working on a Certificate in Neuropsychology through Ball State University. Vocal Director Steve was raised in a very musical family and has always had a passion for the performing arts. Steve’s father was a successful band director at the collegiate level and served as a role model that defined a strong work ethic and a love for music education. As kids, Steve and his three siblings performed at church and in school groups as well as performing as a barbershop quartet. During high school, Steve played in the Washington All State Band and soon made the decision to attend Warner Pacific College. While at Warner Pacific, Steve excelled in both vocal and instrumental performance and toured across the U.S. in and elite performing group representing the college. After receiving a bachelors degree, he started his teaching career in Oregon and taught high school and middle school band/choir for nine years. Steve completed his Masters degree at Western Oregon University and obtained his administrative certificate at Lewis and Clark College. Steve had a successful administrative career as a Principal for over 23 years in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Steve and his wife, Helena were always very involved in music ministry at their church. After retiring from public schools, Steve served at interim head administrator for two years at Crosspoint Christian High school and one year at Central Valley Christian school in Visalia California. Steve also served on staff as “Pastor of creative arts” at the Living Room Church in Kennewick for two years. Steve and Helena love the Columbian Basin and being close to kids and grand kids. Choreographer Jenna Larsen developed a passion for dance, music and theater at an early age. From musicals and choirs, to dance groups and playing the violin, she has a deep love and appreciation for all genres of performing arts. While studying Psychology at Brigham Young University in Provo Utah, she continued to take dance and drama classes. Jenna started choreographing for Forte in 2018. She has also taught Musical Theater dance classes at Thrive Dance in Richland. Teaching others the art of dance has become a way for her to uplift and build confidence in those she is working with. Though she loves all styles of dance, her favorites are Ballroom, Musical Theater, Jazz and Hip-hop. Courtney is classically trained in the Cecchetti Method of Ballet and utilizes that knowledge and training in her choreography for Forte! Her favorite style of dance is Contemporary or Tap, but she also enjoys Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theater, and Hip Hop as well. During her time as a dancer, Courtney had the opportunity to train with and work on staff for the Break The Floor Dance Corporation for their convention tour in multiple cities including Seattle, Las Vegas, Portland, and San Francisco. Courtney competed in dance throughout middle and high school, paying for a portion of her training and academic college expenses with scholarships won through dance competitions. During her time as a dancer, she also opened up for the Radio City Rockettes in Portland before their Christmas Spectacular at the Moda Center. Courtney started teaching dance classes at the age of 15 in Richland at the studio she attended. She continued to teach them throughout high school and into adulthood, transitioning through a variety of roles including multiple years as the Children’s Director at a large studio in Kennewick. Aside from dance, Courtney has her BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Governors University and is certified to teach K-8th grade in all core subjects. Courtney currently teaches 2nd Grade at Washington Elementary in Kennewick. She is working on her masters in Mathematics Education as well, with the intention to continue into a mastery program in Youth Trauma Counseling. Courtney and her husband Seth have 3 spoiled rotten dogs. Vocal Director Kate Larsen grew up on the stage singing, dancing, acting and participating in every show she could squeeze into her schedule. She was blessed by and was an asset to her hometowns thriving arts community. By the time she graduated high school she had studied several forms of dance, competed as a professional dancer, toured the US and Canada with performing groups, been awarded top honors at Music and Dance Festivals, and held lead roles in several productions including the title roll of Cinderella. Kate found immense joy in creating art of her own early on and began writing original music, short theatre pieces and choreographing for local competitive teams and soloists. She was awarded several performing scholarships and pursued her passion for music at Weber State University and later the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Music Education. Kate says she owes so much to the arts. They have been a lighthouse in her life journey and a touchpoint for many of her most cherished relationships. She appreciates the special bond created between artists and often their audiences too. Kate enjoys several life-long friendships with fellow performers and educators from her Institute Show Choir, Folk Dance Team and numerous church choirs and bands. She even met her husband while serving a Performing Service Mission for her church in Nauvoo, Illinois. Kate has taught privately and in the community for over 15yrs and continues to write, perform and be an advocate for the arts wherever she goes. She especially loves weaving music through her family life. From CBC's Touring Repertoire productions of "Much Ado About Nothing" to Richland Players' "The Importance of Being Earnest," The Rude Mechanicals' "A Christmas Carol," and the Mystery Theater's "See How They Run," he loves bringing smiles and joy to audiences. He studied Theater and Communication at CBC and BYU-Idaho, learning how to share his knowledge with others. Since 2013, Mikal has been teaching the Junior Achievement Program through Gesa Credit Union for elementary and middle school students. He has also served in leadership roles with youth organizations in his local church congregations for over 14 years. Working with different ages in the TCYC programs has been a joy for Mikal—watching shy and timid young performers gain confidence and discover their abilities through theater has been incredibly rewarding.
